Open your EG Assist Voucher (PDF). In the top header or the plan detail section, you’ll find your unique Assistance Number (e.g. EG Assist – 1017) and your passport / ID number.

Does a Colombian visa have medical policy?

No, a visa itself does not provide a medical policy. The visa requires the applicant to purchase and maintain a specific type of private health policy (All-Risk Coverage) to be approved. This requirement ensures the foreigner is prepared for any medical eventuality, including accident, illness, disability, hospitalization, death, or repatriation, upon entry.

What is the visa health policy in Colombia?

Visa health policy refers to a specific private policy required for most Colombian visa applications, as mandated by Resolution 5477. This policy is required to cover “all risks” in the national territory, including accidents, illness, death, and repatriation, serving as legal proof that the applicant can manage health emergencies during their stay.

How to get a health policy as a foreigner?

If you are a tourist or visa applicant, you can purchase a private health policy online (e.g., EG Assist) using your valid passport. If you are a resident, you may eventually report your documentation to an EPS provider; however, it is highly recommended to avoid EPS enrollment if you are currently applying for or renewing a retirement visa, as an active status in the national system (ADRES) can negatively impact your application and lead to rejection or withdrawal.

How much is health policy in Colombia per month?

The cost of private health policy varies by plan level and applicant age. For the the EG Visa Protect plan starts at US$495 annually (approx. US$41.25 per month). For higher coverage limits, the EG Visa Protect Pro starts at US$595 annually (approx. US$49.58 per month). Please note that for applicants aged 76 to 85, there is a 50% premium increase.

Can someone with a US visa get a health policy?

Yes, because eligibility for private health insurance in Colombia is generally based on the individual’s legal documents (such as a passport) and physical presence in the country, not on holding a US visa. The global coverage of EG Assist health policies provides protection within Colombia but does not include coverage in the insured person’s country of origin.

Can a foreigner get a health policy in Colombia?

Yes, foreigners have two primary options for obtaining health coverage:

  • Private/Travel Health Policy (EG Assist): Purchased with a passport, this is mandatory for visa applications and compliant with Resolution 5477.
  • National EPS: Once the Cédula de Extranjería is obtained, you can enroll in the Colombian public healthcare system.

Important: Foreigners with a Retirement Visa can’t enroll in an EPS, due to Resolution 5477 restrictions.

How can I access health services in Colombia as a digital nomad?
